The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. It was established in 1989 and provides open and distance learning (ODL) to students across India. The NIOS aims to provide access to quality education to all individuals irrespective of their age, gender, location or social background. It provides various courses ranging from elementary level studies to postgraduate level courses. It also offers various vocational courses and short–term courses.
National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) Entrance Test
The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) Entrance Test is conducted for admission to Secondary and Senior Secondary Certificate courses. The entrance exam is conducted twice a year in the months of April and October. The exam is conducted in both online and offline modes and is of 3 hours duration. The exam consists of multiple choice questions from subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science and Social Science. The syllabus for the entrance exam is based on the CBSE syllabus for class 10th and 12th.
National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria for admission to the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) is as follows:
1. Candidates should be at least 14 years of age as on July 1 of the year in which admission is sought.
2. Candidates should have passed at least eight years of schooling from a recognized school.
3. Candidates should not have been issued a certificate of passing Class 8 or 10 or 12 from any other recognized board.
4. Candidates should have valid proof of age such as school leaving certificate/birth certificate.
5. Candidates should have valid proof of address such as aadhaar card/ration card/voter id card.
6. Candidates should attach a copy of their latest photograph with the application form. 7. Candidates should attach a copy of their last academic report card issued by the school. 8. Candidates should pay the required fee as specified by the NIOS.
